Marty's Arrival - April 29, 2009
Well, the day finally arrived. We picked up Marty at the shelter today about 600PM. We found him on Monday and we choose him immediately. He had his surgery this morning and now is recovering. He seems to be calm and cool and very affectionate. It is just what two old folks need and wanted. Mom bought him a new bed which he has already tried out. We have a chain link fence at the back of our yard which lets him look out at our neighbors in the adjoining neighborhood. The kids were out until dark which kept him entertained. Yes, he does look a little like our Bosco. Marty is a beagle mix. We think he has some basset in him because of his big feet. Anyway, we are now a complete family again. Isn't life great! Praise the Lord!

Grandbirds at The Mountain Retreat
In 2008 we had two bird nests on the porch. The birds built one nest in a wreath we had and also on the top of one of the ceiling fans. Well, again this year a mother bird has returned and has built her nest in the wreath. You can see the bird in the nest. She is sitting on three little eggs. We have to be careful and not operate the fans. We don't want any accidents. Hopefully we will get to see the babes before they fly away. It will be nice to be grandparents again. Isn't life great!

The Mountain Retreat, Flat Rock, NC
We bought our "Mountain Retreat" about 4 years ago. It is just outside of Hendersonville, NC. We are partial to the mountains of NC. It is in the Twin Ponds RV Park. Check it out on the web.
It is only 45 minutes from our home in Spartanburg, SC. It is only about 2 hours for Matthew and Aimee to get here. It is the perfect place for reading a book and watching the ducks on the pond.
In the summer we go to "Music On Main" on Friday evenings and dance to beach music. Ashville, Brevard, and Black Mountain are all within an hour's drive. It is our little piece of paradise. come to see us.

Mountain Retreat - From the Inside
Our Mountain Retreat is about 550 sq. ft. It is an RV Park Model Home with a foyer and living room added on. The cost was less than a new Ford SUV. We have had the living room completely rebuilt. The couch is a sleeper sofa which allows us to have guests. Jan and I always sleep there. We have only one bathroom. The small size challenges you to do your business and then get out. The pictures below are 1) the bedroom,2) and 5) the den, 3) the dinette area, 4) the kitchen,6) and 7) are the living room. You can see the foyer in the background. Of course, the den and dinette and kitchen areas are all together. It is big enough for us. Jan has redecorated it and done an excellent job as usual. The mountains of NC are close by. We love it here. You are welcome to use it with us or for your week away.
