Books, Books, Books - What a Good Year 2009

So many books, so little time!! The year 2009 was a good year for reading. I will finish with almost 63 books read. You meet so many new people that become like family. And you travel to places that you have never been to before. All you need is time and a library full of good books.

In the Non Fiction category, these are the best read this year:
1. Same kind of Different as You - Ron Hall & Denver Moore - a true story of how Christ changed the lives of a homeless man and a volunteer at the shelter.
2. Escape From the Deep - Alex Kershaw
3. The Rescue - Steven Trent Smith
4. Doctor to the Resistance - Hal Vaughn
These three books are about WWII - stories of courage, honor, and sacrifice, and pain and imprisonment.

In the Fiction Category there were lots of good books. My favorite five were:
1. Hi Honey, I'm Home - Linda Windsor
2. Tending Roses - Lisa Wingate
3. The Wednesday Letters - Jason Wright
4.The Mermaid Chair - Sue Monk Kidd
5. The Last Song - Nicholas Sparks

The three"W's"(Windsor, Wingate, Wright) are my favorite authors for the year. All together I read 13 books by these authors. Their stories are excellent and tell a Christian viewpoint.

Everyone has their own favorite books and authors. My list reflects my taste. Some like chocolate and some like vanilla! Read a book - your choice!

Divinity Care Facility Party - December 1, 2009

Divinity Care Facility is a shelter for homeless men. It was started about 12 years ago by Richard Johnson. He believes that God chose him because he had been one of the baddest guys in the world. And if Jesus could change his life around, then Jesus could reach the other hopeless and pathetic souls if Richard would get out there and work for the Lord! And the Rev. Johnson has been doing that. We have come a long way since then. I have been on the Board since 2001. And we have all been blessed.

Each December we have a party to praise the Lord and thank him for our blessings. This year is our fourth year. We are looking for a blessed new year. We can always use some more help. And if you can't make it by, then pray for us. Merry Christmas.

Fall Festival 2009

We had our Fall Festival at Second Presbyterian Church on Friday October 30, 2009. It was a great success. The previous year we had only about 50-60, but this year we had about 110. The kids were dressed up and were ready to play. We adults ate chili until it ran out. Jan helped out with the games and I cleaned up in the kitchen. Hope that the "Great Pumpkin" visited a patch near you. God is good and great. Life is good for the Goodmans.
